UNC's Davis loses two from first class
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Two members of Butch Davis' first recruiting class at North Carolina will not play for the Tar Heels this season because of academics, the school said Saturday.
Receiver Dwight Jones Jr. of Burlington and linebacker Albert Craddock failed to meet the NCAA's academic requirements.
Dwight Jones Jr., a 6-foot-5 wideout, was a two-sport standout at Cummings High School. He was named to The Associated Press All-State high school football team for North Carolina, and also was the AP's men's basketball player of the year in the state.
A team spokesman said Dwight Jones Jr. will attend Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Va., while Craddock is likely to attend junior college.
